FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 8, 2026) – Behind a first-half goal from
Micala Boex, the Northern Arizona soccer team took a 1-0 win over Eastern Washington on Thursday evening at Lumberjack Stadium.
NAU (5-4-2, 1-0 Big Sky) wins back-to-back matches for the first time this season while extending its unbeaten streak to four games. Eastern Washington falls to 6-4-2 and 0-2-1 in league action.
Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making six saves. The shutout marks her second in a row and sixth of her career. Shots on target were even as both sides took six, with NAU ultimately outshooting EWU 14-11.
Neither team was able to establish or sustain possession early. Boex asked the first question of the contest in the ninth minute, then put one on goal shortly after in the 12th minute. The Eagles also got their first shot on target in the 12th minute, as tempo fastened even in the opening ticks and both goalies matched the intensity of attack.
Boex's goal arrived in the 38th minute, as the forward took advantage of miscommunication on the Eagle backline and found herself with a breakaway and one-on-one opportunity against the keeper. She placed the ball into the top right of the net as the 'Jacks went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage.
The visitors began the second stanza aggressively, taking shots in the 46th and 51st minutes. The majority of Eastern Washington's corner kicks were the result of stellar saves from Saveski, who punched several shots out of play throughout the night to maintain the blank sheet. On the other end, NAU kept it foot on the gas, as
Ava Hinske tested the keeper again in the 67th minute, and Boex ripped a shot that ricocheted off the right post in the 80th minute.
Down the stretch, the Lumberjack backline stepped up once again to seal the win, as they did not allow on shot on goal in the final 22 minutes of the contest.
The Lumberjacks remain at home and will host Idaho on Sunday, Oct. 11. Kickoff with the Vandals is scheduled for 1 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
