GREELEY, Colo. (November 5, 2026) – The Northern Arizona soccer team fell 3-0 to Northern Colorado in the regular season finale on Thursday afternoon at Jackson Field.
NAU moves to 8-6-5 and 4-2-3 in conference matches and heads into the upcoming Big Sky Championships as the No. 3 seed.
Northern Colorado improves to 9-6-4 and 6-1-2 in league action, grabbing the No. 2 seed and first-round bye in the tournament. Weber State claims the regular season title outright and top seed as it finishes with 22 total points.
Micala Boex paced the 'Jacks with five shots, while
Valerie Llamas took four. NAU outshot the Bears, 18-15, but was edged in corner kicks 3-1.
Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making five saves.
The Bears wasted no time attacking, as they ripped a shot in opening minute that missed just right. NAU first pressured the goalie in the ninth minute, as Thordis Melsted was forced to meet a striking Boex in the box to clear the threat.
UNC struck first in the 17th minute from Anneliese Wong and tacked on another score in the 21st minute from a header by Ava Marshall off a free kick from just inside midfield.
Llamas took the next shot on target in the 24th minute, and
Erin Perry asked the next question of the keeper in the 34th minute as the Lumberjacks looked to break through.
NAU made a push before the intermission, as Llamas took a shot in the 41st minute that was just high, and
Brooklyn Jones ripped a shot straight off a free kick that missed the same way.
The Lumberjacks began the second half in a bit of a drought, with the first shot of the period not arriving until the 56th minute from
Ava Hinske. Perhaps the best scoring opportunity of the match came from a pair of shots in the 66th and 67th minutes, as Perry got another good shot on target to force a diving save and Boex earned a free kick not far outside the 18 that missed high.
UNC then added the insurance goal in the 73rd minute as NAU struggled to clear a cross into the box that found Marshall for the brace.
Northern Arizona begins the Big Sky Championships next week in Missoula, Mont. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 against No. 6 Idaho State. Kickoff with the Bengals is set for 10:30 am MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
