NAU Falls in NCAA First Round to Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. (May 1, 2026) – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team battled in a 4-0 loss to Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon, in just their second shutout suffered this season.

NAU closes the season 18-6 and 7-0 in Big Sky matches, while Arizona will move on to face Clemson in the second round.

NAU hung around in doubles play but fell on each court by a 6-2 decision.  The Wildcats kept the heat on going into singles play, as they picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win on court five to make it 2-0 Arizona and give Vincent Vohl just his first loss on the year.

Noa Tcherniack battled after dropping his first set 6-1 but fell at the No. 1 position in straight sets as Arizona approached the clinch.

On court three, Volesky also attempted to rally after falling in his first set, but saw his comeback halted as the Wildcats took a 6-2, 6-4 win to ultimately clinch the match. Takumi Katsuda, Jakub Jedrzejczak, and Daniels Tens were left unfinished. In Katsuda's match, the senior finished in a tiebreaker down 4-2 for the first set in his match.
