TUCSON, Ariz. (September 10, 2026) – The Northern Arizona soccer team fell 3-0 to Arizona on Thursday night at Mulcahy Stadium.

NAU moves to 2-4-1 while Arizona improves to 3-3-1.

Micala Boex paced Northern Arizona with four shots, while Valerie Llamas followed closely behind with three. The Lumberjacks were outshot 19-9, but nearly matched the hosts in corner kicks, 5-4. Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making five saves.

NAU wasted no time attacking, as Llamas booted a shot on goal in the opening minute. The Wildcats started aggressively as well, forcing the 'Jacks backline to fend off into a flurry of shots in the sixth minute.

Lily Nesland tested the Arizona keeper again in the ninth minute as NAU searched for early offense.

Arizona struck first in the 12th minute, as Jessica Bedolla fed Ella Weathersby a pass who then snuck it into the right side of the net for the score. Tempo slowed following the goal, with neither team getting another shot on target until Saveski made a pair of saves in the 28th and 32nd minutes.

Arizona's second score arrived just before halftime in the 44th minute, off a rebounded shot from Kyleigh Johnson to put the Wildcats up 2-0 at the intermission.

The 'Jacks attack slowed in the second period, as NAU did not record a shot in the half until the 60th minute. Opportunity knocked for the Lumberjacks in the 63rd minute when Arizona was whistled for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Boex stepped up to make the attempt but was read by the Wildcat keeper who made the save.

Following Arizona's third goal in the 73rd minute, Llamas got perhaps the best look at a score in the second half in the 81st minute, ripping a shot that went just left of the post.

The Lumberjacks finish the week at home in Flagstaff, in their inaugural contest with Grambling State on Sunday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
