Lumberjacks Bounce Back With Sweep of Texas Southern

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (September 19, 2026) - The Northern Arizona women's volleyball team rebounded from a 3-0 loss last night with a 3-0 win of their own this morning in a quick turnaround against Texas Southern. The Lumberjacks improve to 7-5 (0-0 Big Sky), while the Tigers fall to 1-11 (0-0 SWAC).

Hanah Stoddard led the Lumberjacks with 13 kills, while Gigi Greenlee and Laney Wilson each added six. Kate Federico paced NAU with four service aces and 10 digs, while Lilly Holmes recorded three aces. Avery Gottschalk led the way at the net with six blocks, followed by Greenlee with five and Quincey Coyle with three. Taryn Davis tallied a team-high 18 assists, with Ella Hosfeld adding 11, while Coyle and Davis each contributed seven digs.

Northern Arizona came out strong in the opening set and never looked back, using a balanced offensive attack and steady play at the net to take early control against Texas Southern. After trading points early, the Lumberjacks created separation behind kills from Stoddard, Wilson and Gottschalk, while Hosfeld sparked a strong serving run that included an ace. NAU hit .286 as a team, recording 10 kills and three blocks while siding out at an 84-percent clip. Stoddard and Wilson led the attack with three kills apiece, with Wilson finishing a perfect 1.000 on her three swings. The Lumberjacks closed the set on a 4-0 run, capped by a service ace from Davis, to secure a 25-13 victory and take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers.

The 'Jacks carried their momentum into the second set, opening with a 4-0 run and holding off Texas Southern for a 25-19 victory. NAU hit .368 as a team, piling up 17 kills, led by Stoddard with six and Greenlee with five. After Texas Southern evened the set at 14-14, NAU answered with five straight points to regain control, with Coyle and Greenlee providing key kills during the run. The Lumberjacks closed out the set on a Tigers service error to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

NAU completed the sweep with a dominant 25-11 third-set victory over Texas Southern. The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 7-1 lead behind three consecutive service aces from Federico. Stoddard added five kills and two blocks in the set, while Masina Perez finished with two kills on two attacks. NAU pulled away with an 8-0 run that included two aces from Holmes to secure the 3-0 sweep.

The Lumberjacks will begin Big Sky Conference play on Sept. 24 when they welcome Southern Utah to the Rolle Activity Center. NAU will then host Utah Tech on Sept. 26.
