FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University student-athletes participated in the 2nd Annual Discover Your Career Night. The goal of the career fair is to give student-athletes a head start in exploring their options after graduation. From internships to graduate assistantships to full-time jobs, the student-athletes were able to speak with 25 different companies about their career path.
“As athletes we need to always put our best foot forward,” said volleyball player Janae Vander Ploeg. “Whether it’s on the court, in the classroom or at a career fair we’re always working hard to achieve our goals. The career fair is a step in the right direction for us to make sure we’re successful in our lives after college.”
NAU welcomed guest speaker, assistant Vice President Nicole DiPetrillo from Western Claim Service Center – Chubb Insurance, who spoke to the Lumberjacks about being a former Division I athlete – a walk-on to a four-year starter, and how that helped shape the person she is today. Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos also spoke to the student-athletes encouraging them to get the most out of the night and that it was never too early to prepare for the future.
“Getting a leg up while we’re young in our educational experience and being able to network with different fields and understanding the various professions is a great advantage that we have here,” said football player Patrick Baldenegro. “We have an amazing athletics department that is giving us the opportunity to experience a wide range of careers and talking to people who know what it takes to get to where we want to be.”
