Trail Tuesdays - Viet Springs

Trail Tuesdays

To close out our Trail Tuesdays segment, we have one final beautiful mountain trail to tell you about that weaves the aspens and pines. The Veit Springs Trail, located halfway up Snow Bowl Road, is dog, kid and family friendly. The trail, which features beautiful wildflowers, trees, and greenery, is accessible year-round but is best suited for hikers during the spring, summer, and fall months.

As previously mentioned, the trailhead is located halfway up to Snowbowl Mountain and can be slightly difficult to spot as the trailhead parking is located on a curve. Once at the trailhead, parking is limited as there is not an actual parking lot, but rather, just an uneven dirt area. Once you've found parking and are ready to hit the trail, expect a small amount of elevation gain at the beginning of the hike. Following that, the trail is mostly flat with very little elevation gain. Along the trail, you'll encounter several forks. When encountering these forks, be sure to pay close attention to the trail markings so you can stay on track to find several landmarks including a plaque honoring Lamar Haines, a cabin settled in 1892 by Ludwig Veit and a teepee shaped shelter made out of aspen tree logs. Finish out the trail by winding back through the forest and back down to the parking area.

The Veit Springs Trail is the perfect place to spend if you have a few hours to spare. The peaceful setting adorned by historical landmarks specific to Flagstaff make it that much more worth your while.
