Whether you’re planning a family outing, looking for a fun date idea, or simply wanting a leisurely solo hike, we have the perfect trail for you. Tucked away at the top of Snowbowl mountain is the
Aspen Nature Loop Trail, a trail that gives way to one of Flagstaff’s most scenic and picturesque landscapes. This trail, covered by various trees and greenery that provides plenty of shade, is classified and rated as easy due to its shorter distance and little elevation gain.
The trail begins in open fields that are close to the Snowbowl Ski Lift. From there, the trail quickly connects to a large grove, full of quaking aspens. Before you know it, the path opens up once again to large grassy fields that guide you to a loop where you’ll find pine trees and aspens scattered throughout. After completing the loop, you’ll head back towards the grassy fields, onto the grove of aspens and back to the open fields, before reaching the trailhead.
As one could have guessed and as previously mentioned, the Aspen Nature Loop Trail winds through towering aspen trees, fields of wildflowers and overlooks the mountaintops of the greater Flagstaff area. During the spring and summer months, expect to see vibrant green colored aspens all along the trail. Although later in the season due to cooler temperatures and the approaching winter months, expect to see gorgeous yellow and gold colored aspens.
Try your best to hit the trail during the sunset hours as the setting sun illuminates the mountains and casts a golden glow over the trail and on the aspens. That being said, no matter the month or time you visit, you’ll be blown away by the amazing scenery that can be found just minutes away from downtown Flagstaff.
So, if you’re looking for a peaceful place in Northern Arizona and don’t want to embark on a long trek to find some serious beauty, be sure to hit up the Aspen Nature Loop Trail. You won’t regret it.
