2023-24 (Senior): Wrote her name in the Lumberjack record books … set the school record on the 800-yard freestyle relay team (7:13.38) while grabbing gold … earned gold in the 500-yard freestyle (4:46.60) and in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.80). Received the Air and Space Forces Association ROTC Cadet of the Year in September 2023.
2022-2023Â (Junior): Moved to No. 5 all time on NAU's all-time performance list in the 500 free after marking her career best at the WAC Championships and a bronze medal finish (4:48.61)... Earned a gold medal in the 400 IM at WAC's (4:15.61), just seconds off her 2022 NAU record... Led the Jacks to their 10th straight WAC title with another gold medal in the 200 fly (1:58.92).
2021-2022 (Sophomore): Won the 200-yard Butterfly on the final day of the 2022 WAC Championships in Houston (1:57.68) ... Also won the 400-yard IM in the conference championship meet (4:15.32 ) marking the program record at NAU... Won the 500-yard free the day prior (4:49.17) ... Won the 200-yard fly against New Mexico State (2:06.89).Â
2020-21 (Freshman): Earned NAU a gold medal in the 800 freestyle (7:23.72) in the 2021 WAC Championships ... Found two individual silver medals ... One silver medal finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.90... Second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.05... Recorded a time of 4:55.73 in the 500 free for a bronze medal... Swam in the third leg of the 400 free relay for NAU to finish 4th at 3:26.97.Â
High school: Swam at Columbia High School. She was a two-time recipient of having the Best Attitude on the team, as well as being the Hardest Worker. She was a state qualifier and placed on the sectional team for three years (2016-2019). In 2019, she earned first place in Region VIII Spring Sectionals.
Personal: Madison Leoni Rey was born in Saint Louis, Mo., and grew up in Columbia, Ill. She is the daughter to Kathleen Jorgensen and sister to Jake, Sydney, Haley, and Anna. Her most memorable sports memory includes receiving third place in the mile at Spring Region VIII Sectionals in 2019. She admires her mom as she has taught everything she needs to know and shows endless support.
