Anna Lofgren, a 2013 NAU graduate and the Lumberjack volleyball program’s all-time digs leader, enters her eighth season as an assistant coach for the team. Along with her coaching duties, Lofgren also serves as the team's summer camp coordinator.
Lofgren has used her defensive expertise to help the Lumberjacks become one of the best defensive teams in the country. In five of her seven seasons on the staff, NAU has finished in the top 50 nationally in digs per set with a high of 10th in 2018. She has also coached four of NAU's top 10 career digs leaders (Jordan Anderson, Janae Vander Ploeg, Lauren Jacobsen and Sydney Lema). Under her guidance, Anderson broke Lofgren's own school record for digs in a season with Anderson totaling 635 digs during the 2018 campaign.
In her first seven seasons on head coach Ken Murphy's staff, the Lumberjacks have compiled a 152-67 overall record. The 152 wins in Lofgren’s years as an assistant are the most in the conference over the last seven seasons. NAU also has posted 88 Big Sky victories in that span, the most in the conference, under the current coaching regime.
Over the last seven years, NAU has not finished lower than fifth in the Big Sky Conference and has reached the tournament championship match in three of the last five seasons. Lofgren has helped the Lumberjacks to Big Sky regular season and tournament championships in 2015 and 2018 with automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons.
The former Anna Gott was a leader on the court for the Lumberjacks throughout her career, serving as a team captain for three seasons. She also has experience coaching the 17 and under Northern Arizona Juniors club volleyball team in Flagstaff for four years.
Lofgren started every match and played in every set as the libero for her entire four-year career. She shattered NAU's all-time digs record with 1,891 career digs, the third highest career dig total in Big Sky history. She was a two-time All-Big Sky honorable mention selection and set NAU's single season digs record with 586 digs during her last season in 2012, a record that stood until the 2018 season. Lofgren recorded four of the six highest single season dig averages in program history and is second in program history with a 4.68 career digs per set average. She also finished her career fourth in program history in service aces (119) and tied for fifth in sets played (404).
In addition to her excellence on the court, Lofgren was stellar in the classroom as she was a four-time Big Sky All-Academic selection and Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. During her senior season, she was also a nominee for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She graduated with a degree in management.
A native of Phoenix, she starred at Desert Vista High School before starting her Northern Arizona career in 2009.
Lofgren and her husband, Seth, got married in June 2018 and they have a son, Gavin.
