Aldo Marquez

Aldo Marquez serves as the Director of Operations and Steeplechase Coach for Northern Arizona University's cross country and track & field programs. A former student-athlete for the Lumberjacks, Marquez transitioned into coaching, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the program's culture and operations.

Athletic Background

Marquez competed for NAU's cross country and track & field teams, contributing to multiple Big Sky Conference championships. In his senior year, he placed 27th at the Big Sky Cross Country Championships with a time of 24:38.1. He also recorded personal bests of 14:11.95 in the 5K at the Husky Classic and 8:37.51 in the 3K at the Ron Mann Classic. He was a member of the 2018, 2020 and 2021 NCAA National Championship-winning cross country teams, helping cement NAU’s status as a distance running powerhouse. 

Coaching Career

After graduating from NAU with a degree in marketing in 2022, Marquez began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the cross country and track & field programs. In this role, he primarily assisted with the distance group, gaining valuable experience in training and athlete development.

In February 2024, Marquez was promoted to Director of Operations, overseeing the logistical and operational aspects of the program. Former Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Mike Smith praised Marquez's transition, noting his "tireless hustle" and deep understanding of the program's inner workings 

Role and Impact

As Director of Operations and Steeplechase Coach, Marquez plays a crucial role in the success of NAU's cross country and track & field programs. His responsibilities include coordinating travel, managing schedules and ensuring the smooth operation of events. Additionally, he coaches the steeplechase group, helping athletes develop their skills and achieve competitive success.

Marquez's unique perspective as a former student-athlete and his comprehensive understanding of the program's operations make him an invaluable asset to the NAU coaching staff. His contributions continue to support the team's pursuit of excellence in both national and conference competitions.
