Women's Basketball Hosts Iona on Thursday

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona women's basketball returns to action against Iona at the Rolle Activity Center on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. The women play their first home game since Dec. 9 after three consecutive away contests.
NAU (4-8) enters Thursday's matchup against Iona on a five-game losing streak. The Lumberjacks have been able to score averaging just under 70 points a game but have struggled defensively giving up 79 points per game and allowing teams to shoot over 50 percent from the field.
NAU played a pair of Big Ten Conference opponents the last two weeks traveling to Northwestern and Minnesota. The women lost to Northwestern, 88-70, and Minnesota, 82-74.
The Lumberjacks have played well at home this season and look to rebound against the Gaels who hold a 4-7 record on the year. Iona played at Arizona on Dec. 28 falling 79-32. NAU is 4-3 at home this season.
Wednesday's game will be the last non-conference matchup for the Lumberjacks. The women start Big Sky Conference play on Jan. 6 at Idaho State followed by Weber State on Jan. 8.
DID YOU KNOW…In the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, the Lumberjacks were the top-ranked team in the Big Sky Conference, while ranking eighth among schools in the Football Championship Subdivision. NAU also finished ahead of seven Bowl Championship Subdivision teams including Washington State (Pac-10), North Carolina State (ACC), Rutgers (Big East), Pittsburgh (Big East), Mississippi State (SEC), Cincinnati (Big East) and Kansas State (Big 12).
