Anderson Claims Second Athlete of the Week Honor
/ February 09, 2010
OGDEN, Utah – Amber Anderson
of the Northern Arizona track and field team was honored by the Big
Sky Conference for her NCAA provisional mark she set in the triple
jump this past weekend at the NAU Team Challenge. Her leap of
41-8.5 puts her in a tie for the 18th-best jump in the country, and
gives her another Big Sky Women's Field Athlete of the Week
award for the indoor season.
Sprints, jumps and hurdles coach Wiley King feels that since
Anderson has arrived on campus she has continued to work hard for
everything she has earned.
“She is working really hard on her technique,” King
said. “In the weight room she made a real big commitment to
getting a new weight lifting PR (personal record). She is really
embracing a lot of the jump specific techniques we are working
on.”
King also believes that she is not quite done extending her
season-best marks.
“I actually think she has some more in there,” King
said. “We have a couple of things that we have been working
on specifically. I think that is going to give her a chance to get
a lot better. She has just been working her butt off.”
Anderson's name continues to be at the top of the Big Sky
performance list in the long and triple jump. In the regional
rankings by event that came out Tuesday afternoon from the U.S.
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the junior
leads the Mountain Region in the triple jump (41-8.5), and is third
in the long jump (19-11.75).
Anderson and the rest of the Lumberjacks return to action this
weekend when they host the NAU Invitational at the Walkup Skydome
Saturday.
