Osman Places 15th at Outdoor Championships
/ June 10, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. – The end of a
stellar season for another Northern Arizona track athlete came to
an end Thursday evening as sophomore Ahmed Osman finished 15th
overall in the men's 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor
Championships. Looking for his second-straight All-American award
in the event, Osman was unable to come up with a top-eight finish
as he concluded the race in a time of 29:29.62.
"My plan heading into the race was
to get into that top eight," Osman said. "Obviously that didn't
happen and it's just one of those days where things didn't go
right. I gave it my best shot, but I couldn't come through."
One thing Osman will do is learn
from this race. The San Diego native knows that with two years
left, he can still improve greatly.
"It is always a learning process
when you come to a championships event," Osman said. "You correct
your mistakes and just come back and do better. I learned a lot
today, but am still disappointed."
After competing with the lead pack
for the majority of the race, Osman was thrown out of his rhythm
when the group threw in a surge, and was unable to keep up with the
pack for the rest of the race.
This concludes a successful
sophomore campaign in which Osman won his second-straight Big Sky
10K title, and recorded a new personal record in the event at the
Mt. SAC Relays in April (28:52.57).
Seniors Javier Villarreal and David
McNeill will compete at the outdoor championships Saturday.
Villarreal takes to the shot put ring at 9:40 a.m. PDT, and
McNeill's 5,000-meter run is scheduled for 11:21 a.m. PDT, live on
CBS.
