Women's Basketball Back in Win Column, Beats Weber State 75-63

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona women's basketball snapped its six-game losing streak with a 75-63 win over Weber State on Thursday in the Rolle Activity Center.  Senior point guard Vickie Toney scored a season-high 17 points in the win.

NAU (8-15, 3-7 BSC) played its best basketball in over a month shooting 53 percent from the field and hit 15-of-20 free throw attempts.

"I thought we distributed the ball really well tonight," Kelly said.  "I thought our press worked well and gave them some issues.  We were able to force some turnovers and get some easy baskets.

"We were able to play a lot of people.  Weber State has some injuries and played about seven or eight so over the course of the game I think the up-tempo pace favored us."

The Lumberjacks opened up a double digit lead in the first half but Weber State fought back to cut the NAU lead to two points.  The women entered the break up 29-27.

The game stayed close over the first seven minutes of the second half but the Lumberjacks would outscore Weber State 23-7 over the next eight minutes.  NAU kept its double digit lead over the next five minutes and finished the game with a 12-point lead.

Toney shot 4-of-5 from the field, 5-of-7 from the free throw line, and 2-2 from three-point range.  She collected seven assists and three steals in 30 minutes of play.

"Vickie has been struggling and for her to make shots tonight was big for us," Kelly said.  "She played loose and when she gets in that zone she is an incredible player for us.  She had a big night and hopefully this is the first of many more."

The women play at home against Idaho State on Sat., Feb. 12 at 6:35 p.m. in the Rolle Activity Center.  NAU lost to Idaho State earlier this season, 64-54.

"They shot the ball really well against us," Kelly said.  "We are going to have to make some defensive changes if we want to have a good chance against Idaho State."
