Women's Basketball Extends Home Win Streak, Defeats Sacramento State 83-64

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona women's basketball reached the 10-win mark with an 83-64 victory over Sacramento State at the Rolle Activity Center on Thursday. The Lumberjacks won their third straight game at home after sweeping their last homestand.
"It was a team effort tonight," said junior
Caty Huntington who scored 12 points off the bench. "We really tried to push the tempo and get up and down the court. We made some great plays on defense that led to some easy baskets on the other end."
NAU (10-17, 5-9 BSC) outscored Sacramento State 28-9 in transition which contributed to its 47 percent shooting percentage from the field. The women shot 36 percent in the first half but turned it around in the second converting 60 percent of their shots.
The Lumberjacks trailed early but came back to take an eight-point lead into halftime. The women closed out the first half on an 11-3 run.
NAU pushed its lead to over 20 points in the second half and led by as many as 28, a season-high for the women this year. The Lumberjacks finished the game with 83 points, matching their highest scoring output since Nov. 22 against Queens College.
Huntington hit 4-of-6 shots but freshman Khyra Conerly recorded her best game of the season with a career-high 17 points after shooting 7-of-12 from the field. She also added five steals, two rebounds, and two assists on the night. Tyler Stephens-Jenkins ended her night with 13 points rounding out the Lumberjacks in double figures.
Sacramento State's Kylie Kuhns finished with a game-high 19 points while Shanti Smith chipped in 10 off the bench.
The Lumberjacks will look to push their home winning streak to four games on Saturday with a matchup against one of the Big Sky's premiere teams this season in Northern Colorado. The Bears have clinched a postseason berth in the Big Sky Championships and hold a 10-3 record in league play this year, tied with Montana State for the best record in the conference.
