(STATS) Northern Arizona quarterback Case Cookus has been named the STATS LLC FCS Freshman of the Week, after leading the Lumberjacks to a 34-28 road win over then-Top 25 Stephen F. Austin.

Cookus, a native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., completed 13 of 18 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown passes of 57 and 47 yards – both to Co-Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week Emmanuel Butler - helped NAU defeat their first FCS opponent in a season opener since 2003. Cookus also tallied 10 carries for 41 yards, including an 11-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Cookus and the Lumberjacks never trailed in the game, returning home with a 1-0 record to start the season.
