Northern Arizona Football Moves to No. 24 in FCS Coaches Poll

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Oct. 9, 2017) - The Northern Arizona football team is ranked No. 24 in the latest FCS Coaches Top 25, which was released Monday.

The Lumberjacks, who are riding a three-game winning streak following a 37-16 win over then-No. 7 Illinois State, earned 40 points in the poll – 28 behind No. 23 Nicholls.

The Northern Arizona defense intercepted three passes and recorded five sacks in the win over Illinois State while limiting the Redbirds' rushing attack, which entered the contest averaging 190.2 yards per game, to just 63 yards on 29 carries.

The Lumberjack offense rang up 431 yards of total offense against Illinois State's No. 2 ranked defense as it cruised to its third consecutive victory.

NAU also received a total of 136 points in the STATS FCS Top 25 – good for 28th most overall.

The Lumberjacks return to action this weekend when they hit the road for Big Sky Conference play at Portland State in a 2 p.m. PT kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 14.
