Wes Sutton were named All-Big Sky Conference First Team choices, the league office announced on Tuesday.
In addition, sophomore cornerback
Khalil Dorsey and junior safety
Kam'ron Johnson were selected to the All-Big Sky Second Team Defense and senior center
Blake Porter and junior running back
Cory Young were honored as All-Big Sky Third Team Offense choices. Senior defensive tackle
James Walton was slotted as a Third Team All-Big Sky Defense selection.
Northern Arizona's All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honorees included offensive tackle
Cole Habib, running back
Joe Logan, defensive end
Clarence Smith, linebacker
Byron Evans, linebacker
Taylor Powell and cornerback
Maurice Davison.
Cookus has directed an NAU offense that finished ranked 14th nationally in total offense (448.4 yards per game), 26th nationally in scoring offense (32.1 points per game) and eighth among FCS leaders in passing offense (312.3 yards per game) in 2017.
The sophomore signal caller has posted 3,235 yards, while completing 58.4 percent (253-of-433) of his pass attempts and adding a total of 21 touchdowns against just five interceptions. Cookus sits 10th among FCS leaders in completions per game (23.0), 10th in passing yards and 19th in passing touchdowns.
He has registered six 300-yard passing efforts this season and a pair of 400-yard plus performances, while committing just two interceptions over the last nine games of the regular season.
Shank started in 10 of 11 games this season and was the anchor of an NAU offensive line that helped the Lumberjacks rushing attack average nearly four yards a carry this season.
Sutton was the backbone of an NAU secondary that finished the regular season ranked first in the Big Sky Conference and 16
th nationally in passing yards allowed at 169.4 per contest. He posted a total of 72 tackles this season, including eight tackles for loss and hauled in a pair of interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
The Lumberjacks will open FCS Playoff action this Saturday, Nov. 25 against Pioneer League Champion, the University of San Diego, in a 6 p.m. MST kickoff from the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.
