FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 29, 2017) – The Northern Arizona men's basketball team will return to the road this week as it concludes its current six-game stretch away from home with a matchup on Thursday, Nov. 30 at West Coast Conference member Santa Clara in an 8 p.m. MST tip before following with a meeting at Western Athletic Conference member CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. MST.
Both of this week's NAU men's basketball games will be broadcast live on the Lumberjack Radio Network with Anthony DeFazio calling the action. Saturday's game at CSU Bakersfield will also be aired live on ESPN3.
The Lumberjacks will be playing their sixth and seventh games away from home over their first eight contests this week as part of a challenging early season non-conference schedule that has already featured games against Arizona, Arizona State and Kansas State, in addition to a pair of games over Thanksgiving week at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational against Hampton and UC Irvine.
The 'Jacks enter the week's set of games with a 0-6 record, but nearly pulled out their first win in their most recent action on Nov. 24 against UC Irvine. NAU led by as many as 13 points before falling to the Anteaters 77-71. Sophomore forward
Chris Bowling posted a career-high 26 points in the loss and shot 10-of-15 from the field.
According to the most recent Sagarin Ratings (as of Nov. 29) the Lumberjacks have played the sixth-toughest schedule in the nation entering Thursday's matchup with Santa Clara.
NAU has faced a total of three teams ranked among Sagarin's top-50 nationally (out of 351 overall).
The Lumberjacks reserves have posted 23 points or more in each of the team's six games this season and have outscored or matched their opponents' reserves in four of six of those contests.
The NAU bench is led by sophomore
JoJo Anderson who has registered an average of 11.5 ppg - tied for second-highest scoring per game total on the squad.
Anderson enters Thursday's meeting with Santa Clara having posted double-figure points in each the last four games.
Junior guard
Torry Johnson has tallied 20 points or more in two of the last three games overall entering Thursday's meeting with Santa Clara, including a career-best 24 point scoring effort in the Nov. 23 meeting with Hampton.
The 'Jacks will try to avoid their first 0-7 start to a season since 1951-52 when they take on Santa Clara on Thursday night.
