Women's Basketball / July 10, 2017
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona head women's basketball coach
Loree Payne landed another talented transfer on Monday with the announcement of her newest Lumberjack,
Jacey Bailey. Bailey, a 6-0 wing, heads to the mountains of Flagstaff following a season at Florida Atlantic.
"We are very excited for Jacey to join the Lumberjack family," Payne said. "She is an incredible athlete who has the ability to play multiple positions. Her versatility will make her a big time player for us and a big time player in the Big Sky Conference. She is also not only a phenomenal basketball player, but a phenomenal student."
Bailey saw ample playing time as a true freshman at Florida Atlantic this past season, starting 15 games and appearing in all 29 contests. In 17.8 minutes per game, she averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 32.9 percent from the floor. Bailey recorded four double-digit scoring games with her best performance coming in a 12-point effort against UAB in the second-to-final game of the season. She was also awarded the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
Prior to arriving in the states, the Burnaby, BC, Canada native was a prep star in her home country. In her final season at Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, Bailey averaged 30 points, eight rebounds and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 81 percent at the charity stripe. As a senior, she notched a 55-point performance in a single game while setting the record for most three-pointers made with 12.
On the international level, Bailey has played in the Canadian National Tournament and was one of just 17 athletes to be invited for a tryout with the U18 Canadian National Team.
"Jacey truly epitomizes the Lumberjack spirit and everything we are setting out to establish in our program's culture," Payne said. "She completes our very talented incoming class and needless to say, we are very excited about the future of Lumberjack Women's Basketball."
Bailey is the ninth newcomer to the NAU women's basketball program and is the second Division I transfer joining
Desirae Gonzalez from Nevada. Also included in Payne's inaugural incoming class are five true freshmen (
Kaprice Boston,
Abbey Jensen,
Lauren Orndoff,
Alize' McCormick,
Khiarica Rasheed), a junior college transfer (
Tate Tsingine) and one of her former players at Puget Sound (
Caitlin Malvar).
