FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (November 1, 2018) – The Northern Arizona Women's Swimming and Diving team will be back in the pool this weekend as it has two meets. The first meet will be on Friday, Nov. 2 against Washington State in Pullman, Wash. at 2 p.m. MST. The Lumberjacks will be back in action the next day on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. MST in a dual meet in Moscow, Idaho against the University of Idaho and Seattle University.
"Going back to back is a bit of a challenge, but something we have to do at the end of the season, so it's just good preparation for that," NAU head swimming coach
Andy Johns said. "Idaho is going to be tough, and it will be good to also go up against another WAC member in Seattle."
PREVIOUS RESULTS
The Lumberjacks are coming off of their first meet against the University of New Mexico in which they lost 186-to-114. In the swimming events, NAU was only able to win two events on Oct. 26.
Hope Williams took home first in the 100 breaststroke while
Maddie Seidl took home first in the 200 butterfly. The duo of
Christina Torrente and
Tatiana Kurach were able to dominate the meet in the diving portion. Kurach took home first in the 1-meter whereas Torrente took home first in the 3-meter.
"I am looking forward to the improvement of the team from last week's meet," Johns said.
THE OPPONENTS
Pac-12 foe, Washington State University looks to be good competition for the Lumberjacks on Friday as it is currently 2-2 on the season with wins over San Diego and Idaho. The Cougars currently leads the all-time series against NAU 8-to-2. The Lumberjacks will be looking for their first win in Pullman in school history.
The Idaho Vandals will be heading into the meet on Saturday with a 0-2 record on the year. The Vandals are a familiar opponent for the 'Jacks as they faced off in the 2017-2018 season where NAU won 173-122. This win marked the fifth straight for Northern Arizona and 11th all-time.
The matchup with Seattle University will be the second time the two schools have met in the regular season in their programs' histories. NAU currently holds the lone win from the 2011-2012 season where the 'Jacks were able to win 171-65. The Redhawks will be entering the weekend with a record of 2-4 on the year. SU's wins come over Pacific Lutheran and Loyola Marymount.
