Anokhina Leads Tournament Individually; Women’s Golf Sits in a Tie for Fourth After the Opening Round of the Big Sky Championships

Anokhina leads the Big Sky Championships and NAU sits fourth overall as a team after the opening round of the conference tournament.

DAY ONE RESULTS

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Sofia Anokhina leads the tournament individually at three-under and the Northern Arizona University golf team sits in a tie for fourth overall at 18-over as the Lumberjacks opened the first round of the 2018 Big Sky Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Friday.

Anokhina was nearly perfect on the day as she recorded 13 pars, four birdies and just one bogey which included a stretch of eight consecutive pars from hole No. 5 through No. 12.

The junior from Moscow, Russia won the event just last year with a two-under showing. It was the first conference title won individually by the Lumberjacks since 2010.

Behind Anokhina was Lexi Keene (six-over/tied for 25th overall) and Sierra Bezdicek (seven-over/T-28th) who each chipped in solid performances.

Rounding out the NAU attack was Loren Skibba (eight-over/T-33rd) and Kaitlyn Saum (+10/T-45th).

Idaho and Portland State currently lead the tournament at eight-over. Sacramento State sits alone in third at 13-over while Northern Arizona, Montana and Eastern Washington are all tied for fourth at 18-over.

The Lumberjacks return to the links for the second round of the conference championships which tee off at 7:30 a.m. MST on Saturday morning.
