Lumberjacks Under-Par After First Round of NMSU Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (October 13, 2025) - The Northern Arizona women's golf team finished the first round of the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic at 2-under par, sitting in eighth place.

Senior Nina Lukyanenko leads the field after posting a career-low round of 67 (-5). She began her day with a par on hole 11 during the shotgun start and then birdied her second hole to set the tone. From there, she secured seven straight pars before making four consecutive birdies on holes 2 through 5. The Moscow, Russia native dropped a single shot on the par-5 eighth hole but bounced back with a birdie on her final hole of the day, hole 10.

"It was just a nice day, everything clicked, and I had a lot of fun," Lukyanenko said.

Lukyanenko is tied for first place with Boise State's Teal Matsueda and UC Irvine's Katelyn Kong.

Three Lumberjacks - Frankie Dezis, Amy Hodgkins, and Lizzie Neale - all posted rounds of 73 (+1). They are tied for 40th in the 104-player field. Dezis recorded three birdies on the day, while Hodgkins and Neale each picked up two.

Sumin Kang rounded out the lineup with a 74 (+2), tying for 53rd. The sophomore also had two birdies.

Playing as an individual, Ava Bates shot 76 (+4), with birdies on holes 9 and 14. She is tied for 77th on the leaderboard.

Boise State (-12) leads by six strokes over San Diego State (-6), with Long Beach State in third (-5) and Big Sky rival Sacramento State tied for fourth with UC Irvine at -4.

Tomorrow, Northern Arizona will tee off alongside UC Irvine (-4), Santa Clara (-3), and Houston Christian (-3). The round will begin with another shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. MST, with NAU starting on holes 5-8.
