OGDEN, Utah (May 14, 2018) – Northern Arizona has swept the 2017-18 Big Sky Conference All-Sports Trophy award for the fifth time in school history.
The Lumberjacks' season was highlighted by the men's cross country program winning their second consecutive NCAA National Championship. Prior to bringing home the hardware, NAU won its 27
th Big Sky crown and second straight.
During the fall, the football team sat atop the standings for the majority of the season before tying for third overall in the league and earning an at-large bid to the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
The men's track and field program won its seventh consecutive indoor title and followed it up in the outdoor season winning its sixth conference championship in seven years.
The men's tennis program placed second in the league to finish in the top two of the league standings for the second straight season. Overall, the Lumberjacks had five of their programs finish third or better in their sports' standings.
The All-Sports Trophy on the men's side is the fifth straight for Northern Arizona and the 15
th overall for the Lumberjacks.
The Northern Arizona women captured four Big Sky championships during the 2017-18 school year. The Lumberjacks began the year by winning their second straight Big Sky cross country team title and 20
th overall.
NAU's women's tennis team went undefeated in conference play at 11-0 for the second consecutive season to win back-to-back league regular-season championships.
The Lumberjack track and field team completed the sweep of the indoor and outdoor titles. NAU's women's indoor championship was the second straight and 13
th overall for the Lumberjacks, while the outdoor season saw the Lumberjacks capture its third in a row and 12
th overall.
NAU women's golf team finished fourth at the conference championship to place in the top four for the 13
th straight season.
The Lumberjacks placed fifth overall in soccer and volleyball to advance to the conference tournament in both sports to give the NAU women six teams in the top five of their respective sports.
The All-Sports Trophy is the eighth overall for the Lumberjack women and second in a row.
The All-Sports Awards play an integral role in the race for the Big Sky Conference Presidents' Cup, mixed with an academic component. Institutional scores are calculated by dividing total points by the number of Big Sky sponsored sports the institution sponsors. Indoor track & field and outdoor track & field All-Sports points are averaged to create one point for track & field.
