OGDEN, Utah (May 7, 2018) – With one week left to go in the Big Sky's regular season, the Northern Arizona men and women lead the All-Sports standings.
The men's and women's outdoor track & field championships are being conducted from May 8-11 in Moscow, Idaho. It is the only sport left on the men's and women's sides that will factor into the numbers. The outdoor track & field numbers will be averaged with the indoor results to determine the overall all-sports winners.
The Northern Arizona men earned the Big Sky title in cross country and indoor track & field. The Lumberjacks placed second overall in tennis and shared third place in football.
Southern Utah is second in the latest men's all-sports rankings after sharing the league title in football. The Thunderbirds placed second in cross country and indoor track & field, and third in golf.
On the women's side, Northern Arizona captured team titles in cross country, indoor track & field and tennis. The Lumberjacks placed in the top five in soccer, volleyball and golf.
Currently in second place in the all-sports standings for the women are the Eagles of Eastern Washington. EWU won the conference championship in soccer, in addition to tying for third in basketball. The Eagles placed fifth in tennis and golf.
The All-Sports Awards play an integral role in the race for the Big Sky Conference Presidents' Cup, mixed with an academic component. Institutional scores are calculated by dividing total points by the number of Big Sky sponsored sports the institution sponsors. Indoor track & field and outdoor track & field All-Sports points are averaged to create one point for track & field.
The men's and women's all-sports trophy award winners will be announced next week.
