FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 16, 2019) – The Northern Arizona men's basketball team will open a four-game homestand this week as it hosts Sacramento State on Thursday, Jan. 17 (6:30 p.m. MST) and Portland State on Saturday, Jan. 19 (2 p.m. MST) at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.
The first 500 fans in attendance for Thursday night's meeting with the Hornets will receive a free NAU stadium cup as well as complimentary refills for the entire game. In addition, the first 500 NAU students to arrive for Saturday's game against the Vikings will receive a free Kiss My Axe t-shirt.
Tickets for both games are available by going to the
NAU Athletics Online Ticket Office and begin at $8 for adults and $4 for youth.
Each of the Lumberjacks' games this weekend will be streamed to a national audience on Pluto TV (Channel 239) and aired on the Lumberjack Radio Network, beginning with the pregame show 30 minutes before tip.
Saturday's game vs. Portland State will also be aired on Your Phoenix CW (Suddenlink Channel 6 in Flagstaff).
NAU enters Thursday's game vs. Sacramento State owning a 34-12 advantage over the Hornets in the all-time series, including a 58-53 victory in the lost recent meeting between the programs on Feb. 22, 2018 in Flagstaff. The 'Jacks are 21-2 all-time vs. Sacramento State in home games and have won each of the last 13 such games dating back to a loss during the 2004-05 campaign.
The Hornets currently own an overall record of 6-7 and are 0-4 in Big Sky play. Sacramento State has lost five straight games since its last win over Westcliff College (Calif.) on Dec. 13. The Hornets are 1-5 in road contests this season.
Portland State enters the week 6-9 overall (1-3 Big Sky) and will travel to Flagstaff to meet the Lumberjacks after playing at Southern Utah on Thursday.
NAU trails the all-time series with the Vikings 28-24 and owns a 15-8 mark against Portland State in games played in Flagstaff entering Saturday's clash. The 'Jacks own an all-time record of 6-5 against Portland State in the
Jack Murphy era, including a 4-2 mark at home.
The Lumberjacks currently have a total of three players averaging double-figure points, led by sophomore
Carlos Hines' team-best 12.5 points per game. Sophomore
Bernie Andre has notched 12.4 ppg, while junior
Ted McCree has tallied an 11.2 ppg average.
In addition, freshman
Luke Avdalovic has been hot for the 'Jacks in recent games posting a 12.4 scoring average over the last eight contests and knocking down a total of 27 three-pointers over that span. He currently ranks ninth nationally with a .532 (33-of-62) shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
NAU (4-11, 2-3 Big Sky) has already matched its conference win total from last season and with a win this week over either Sacramento State or Portland State will secure three Big Sky victories at the earliest point in a season since 2014-15.
The Lumberjacks will conclude the four game stretch of home games next week vs. Northern Colorado (Jan. 26) and Southern Utah (Jan. 28).
