NAU FOOTBALL GAME NOTES - VS. NORTHERN COLORADO (PDF)

NAU OPENING DRIVE
  • The 'Jacks return to the Skydome for the first time since Sept. 14 when they host Northern Colorado on Saturday during Family Weekend.
  • NAU owns a 12-game winning streak in Family Weekend games dating back to a 2006 loss vs. Montana State.
  • Saturday's game marks the Big Sky home opener for the 'Jacks and have won each of their last two opening league games at home with wins over Southern Utah (2018) and Northern Colorado (2017).
  • The Lumberjacks have defeated the Bears by a combined total of 111-41 in their last two trips to the Skydome.
  • The 'Jacks are a perfect 2-0 at the Skydome this season and have won five of their last seven overall at home.
  • Senior quarterback Case Cookus leads the third ranked passing offense in the FCS (371.6) and ranks second nationally among all FCS signal callers with 1,699 passing yards and fifth nationally with 13 TD passes.
  • Senior running back Joe Logan ranks seventh in the FCS with five touchdown catches.
  • Junior kicker Luis Aguilar ranks third among FCS leaders in field goals per game (1.8). 

NAU RETURNS TO SKYDOME FOR FAMILY WEEKEND GAME
  • The Lumberjacks will return to the Skydome for the first time in three weeks when they play host to Northern Colorado on Parent's Weekend in a 4 p.m. MST kickoff that will be televised live on Your Phoenix CW, NAU-TV and Pluto TV (channel 539) with Mitch Strohman (play-by-play), Kevin Stephens (analyst) and Ryan Peretti (sideline) on the call.
  • NAU's showdown with the Bobcats can also be heard on the Lumberjack Radio Network beginning with the pregame show at 3 p.m. MST.
  • The 'Jacks are a perfect 2-0 at the Skydome this season and will be playing their first Big Sky home game when they battle Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon.
  • NAU has won each of their last two Big Sky openers with wins over Southern Utah (2018) and Northern Colorado (2017).
  • The Lumberjacks last dropped a Big Sky home opener in 2016 vs. Eastern Washington by a 50-35 margin.

LUMBERJACKS PERFECT SINCE 2006 ON FAMILY WEEKEND
  • The Lumberjacks have won 12 consecutive games on Family Weekend - dating back to a 39-32 loss vs. Montana State in 2006.
  • NAU has defeated Northern Colorado once during that stretch (2009/35-27) and will be facing the Bears for the fourth time on Family Weekend with the other meetings coming during the 1979 and 1980 campaigns.

SERIES VS. NORTHERN COLORADO
  • NAU leads the all-time series vs. Northern Colorado 15-5. 
  • The first meeting between the programs came back during the 1964 season.
  • The Lumberjacks are 10-3 vs. the Bears since Northern Colorado joined the Big Sky Conference in 2006 and won the first eight meetings before dropping three of the last five.
  • NAU is a perfect 8-0 vs. the Bears in games played in Flagstaff and have outscored Northern Colorado by a combined 111-41 in the last two meetings at the Skydome. 

THE SKYDOME IS OUR HOME
  • Since 2013, the 'Jacks have won 27 of 35 games in the Walkup Skydome and have a total of six games on their home turf this season.
  • Overall, the Lumberjacks boast a record of 160-79 in games played at the Skydome since it opened in 1977.

COOKUS CAREER TOUCHDOWN WATCH
  • Senior quarterback Case Cookus enters Saturday's game vs. Nortern Colorado with 87 career touchdown passes - just seven shy of the NAU career record of 94 currently held by Jason Murrietta.
  • Cookus has already thrown 13 scoring tosses this season and posted multiple TD passes in each of the opening four games to increase his career total to 23 in that category.

COOKUS ON VERGE OF 10,000 PASSING YARDS
  • Senior quarterback Case Cookus needs just 363 passing yards to become just the fourth quarterback in NAU career annals to hit 10,000 for a career.
  • Cookus boasts 9,637 yards and is just two shy of Jeff Lewis (9,639) for the fourth-highest total in program history and 1,060 short of Greg Wyatt for third place.
  • Cookus became the fifth signal caller in NAU history to record 9,000 passing yards in a career with a completion to Stacy Chukwumezie on NAU's second possession of the game at Illinois State on Sept. 21.
  • Cookus also currently holds the top yards per attempt total (8.4) in program history entering this week's match up with Northern Colorado.

JOE LOGAN 25 RUSHING YARDS SHY OF 2,000
  • Senior running back Joe Logan enters Saturday's game vs. Northern Colorado just 25 rushing yards shy of becoming the 11th player in program history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards.
  • Logan is also just 36 yards shying of passing Roger Robinson (2003-04) for the 10th-most and 43 yards shy of Carl Golden's ninth-place total.

TOUCHDOWN LOGAN
  • Senior running back Joe Logan has hauled in a combined five touchdown passes and 245 yards in consecutive games against Western New Mexico and at Illinois State.
  • Logan caught two TD passes vs. Western New Mexico and followed with three scoring catches at Illinois State - becoming the first NAU player with three or more TD grabs since Emmanuel Butler snagged five vs. New Mexico Highlands in 2016.
  • Logan leads the 'Jacks with eight touchdowns thru five games this season (5 receiving/3 rushing).

TOUCHDOWN CHUKWUMEZIE
  • Junior wide receiver Stacy Chukwumezie has scored a touchdown in four of NAU's five games this season.
  • Chukwumezie has recorded a pair of catches over 40 yards this season - both went for scores.
