USTFCCCA Women's Regional Rankings Week 5
NEW ORLEANS, La. (October 21, 2019) - The Northern Arizona men's and women's cross country teams were both ranked in the top-three in the Mountain Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association's Regional Rankings that were released on Monday morning. Week Five's slate saw the Lumberjack men continue their reign atop the Mountain Region for the 27th consecutive week. The NAU women moved from the No. 6 spot to the No. 3 spot off of a sixth-place team finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
There were some slight changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the Mountain Region between Week 4 and Week 5.
BYU found itself in the No. 2 spot behind the 'Jacks again this week. The Lumberjacks won the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational for the fourth consecutive year, while the Cougars captured the Pre-National Invitational crown.
Colorado remained at No. 3 and is followed by Big Sky Conference rival Southern Utah, up three spots from last week. The T-Birds finished 13th at the Nuttycombe Invitational, beating several regional foes. One of those teams Southern Utah beat is Utah State, which dropped to No. 5.
There was a lot more movement in the women's rankings between Week 4 and Week 5. No. 1 BYU stayed put after a runner-up finish in the team standings at Pre-Nationals. No. 2 Colorado moved up one spot, after finishing third at Pre-Nationals. Northern Arizona continues to be impressive and moved up three spots to No. 3. The Lumberjacks placed sixth at Nuttycombe and taking down a handful of nationally ranked teams in the process. No. 4 Air Force moved up one spot from an eighth-place finish at Nuttycombe, placing ahead of now No. 5 New Mexico.
NAU's XC program will return to the course on Nov. 2 in Greeley, Colo., for the 2019 Big Sky Conference Championships.Â
