FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 31, 2019) – In their first home dual of the season, the Northern Arizona University women's swimming and diving team will host University of New Mexico this Friday, Nov. 1 at the Wall Aquatic Center at 4 p.m.
"We just got back to some hard work and paid closer attention to detail," head coach
Andy Johns said. "We're hoping to see people get better from two weeks ago to now."
The Lumberjacks started their season in Colorado two weeks ago, first with a dual meet at Northern Colorado followed by a double dual meet in Colorado Springs against Air Force and Colorado State University. NAU defeated UNC, 157.5-142.5, to start the weekend. In the double dual, the 'Jacks lost 146-96 to Air Force and 144.5-97.5 to CSU. However, Northern Arizona posted a number of first-place wins including
Haley Mayhew's first overall victory in the 500 freestyle (5:13.17).
"In Northern Colorado, we came out on the right side of some of those finishes. The next day, we were on the wrong side. We want to be on the right side," Johns said.
For the divers,
Emily Sharrer placed second overall in the double dual on the 1-meter dive, raking in a score of 239.85.
Emily Luberto finished third to Colorado State with 231.95 points.
"I was very pleased with how they did, just being a few points off from winning," head diving coach
Nikki Huffman said. "I think we will do really well [tomorrow]."
NAU takes a 1-2 dual record into Friday's meet versus the Lobos, whereas New Mexico will compete in its first dual meet of the season. The Lobos lead the all-time record, 16-15.
"[New Mexico] will be fired up, I'm sure," Johns said. "I think it's going to be a really evenly matched meet and either team could come up with the win in the last relay."
