INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 16, 2019) -Â The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced today the team and individual qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. Northern Arizona University's women's team received an at-large bid to the meet and will be returning for the first time since 2008.
In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals qualified at their respective NCAA regional competitions. Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.Â
The Lumberjack women took sixth-place on the team leaderboard at Mountain Regional Championships this weekend in Salt Lake City, with two runners earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association all-region honors. NAU was also fresh off of a return to conference glory after clinching their 21st Big Sky team title in team history. Four women's runners placed in the top-10 at the conference meet.
43 different institutions had a team that qualified.
Of those 43 teams, 19 different institutions had both the men's and women's team earn a trip to Terre Haute, Indiana: Arkansas, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Florida State, Furman, Harvard, Indiana, Michigan, NC State, Notre Dame, Northern Arizona, Ole Miss, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, Tulsa, Villanova and Wisconsin.
Indiana State University will host the championships, Saturday, November 23, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course located in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women's race will begin at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by the men's race at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time. Admission to the event will be $10 per person (cash only).
