OGDEN, Utah (April 11, 2019) – The Northern Arizona men's basketball, women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track & field teams combined for 36 Big Sky Winter All-Academic awards announced by the league office on Thursday.
To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
The women's indoor track & field program led NAU's four Big Sky winter teams with 13 All-Academic awards, while the Big Sky Champion men's indoor track & field team had 11 honorees. The women's basketball team had eight student-athletes honored with the men's basketball team rounding out the awardees with four.
Twenty-five of NAU's 36 Big Sky Winter All-Academic awardees currently hold a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better with four student-athletes – women's basketball's
Caitlin Malvar and women's indoor track & field's
Jesselyn Bries,
Jada Jackson and
Emma Sjolund – maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Also included in the Big Sky's list released on Thursday was
Brooks DeBisschop, who earlier this semester became the third NAU men's basketball player to be named an Academic All-American with his selection to the Google Cloud Academic All-American Third Team.
Taking into account NAU's 40 Big Sky Fall honorees and the swimming & diving team's 10 Academic All-WAC awardees, the department has totaled 86 academic awards.
