NAU Takes Home Big Sky Men’s All-Sports Award

Lumberjacks claim honor for Big Sky record sixth consecutive season

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 15, 2019) – Northern Arizona University has captured the Big Sky Men's All-Sports Award for the sixth consecutive season, which marks the longest run in league history, conference officials announced on Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks tabbed a total of 8.90 points to distance itself from second-place finisher Montana State (7.60) on the strength of Big Sky Championships in cross country, indoor track & field and men's tennis.

The 2019-19 campaign was also highlighted by the men's cross country program winning its third consecutive NCAA National Championship. Prior to bringing home the hardware, NAU won its 28th Big Sky crown and third straight.

The Lumberjack women came just short of repeating as Big Sky All-Sports Trophy Champions, finishing second to Idaho (8.92) with 8.07 points.  The NAU women posted conference titles in both volleyball and tennis.

The All-Sports Award is presented to the institution accumulating the most points during the year in men's sports and women's sports. Points shall only be awarded in Conference-sponsored sports. In basketball, soccer, football, tennis, softball and volleyball, the all-sports points shall be awarded based on the regular-season standings.

In all other sports, all-sports points shall be awarded based on Conference tournament/championship results. Institutional scores are calculated by dividing total points by the number of Conference-sponsored sports the institution sponsors. Indoor and outdoor track and field all-sports points are averaged to create one point for track and field.
