FARMINGTON, Utah (August 12, 2019) – The Northern Arizona University soccer team was ranked No. 6 in the Big Sky Conference Preseason Polls, which were announced Tuesday morning.
The 'Jacks received 47 points in the coaches poll, finishing sixth. Northern Colorado finished first with 76 points with six first-place votes.
Last season, the Lumberjacks made it to the first round of the Big Sky Conference after a great season. The 'Jacks defense set a record for the longest stretch in program history without allowing a goal at 684 minutes. They also tied with Montana for the most shutouts in the Big Sky during a season at 10.
Northern Arizona is starting this year with an entirely new coaching staff. Kylie Louw, the new head coach, has been an assistant head coach for the Lumberjacks for the last two seasons, helping NAU earn a top-five finish in the Big Sky Conference in both 2017 and 2018. Two new coaching assistants, Alan Berrios and Tyler Schatz, will be by Louw's side.
NAU kicks off the 2019 season on Friday (Aug. 16) with an exhibition game against Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. After playing two away games in New York, the 'Jacks will be on the home pitch Sept. 1 playing against Detroit Mercy. Check out the Lumberjacks' schedule here.
