NAU Men's XC Ranked No. 1 for 24th Consecutive Week; Women Ranked No. 25

NEW ORLEANS, La. (September 24, 2019) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) released its second week of the National Coaches' Poll for the 2019 season on Tuesday morning.

Northern Arizona University's cross country program saw both the men's and women's squads represented in the top-30. The NAU men stayed in the No. 1 spot for a record matching second longest modern-era streak atop any national poll conducted by the USTFCCCA24th consecutive week. NAU's women were ranked No. 25 entering the top-300 for the first time this year

Northern Arizona's men headline the poll for the 24th consecutive week after dominating the John McNichols Invitational this past weekend. The Lumberjacks put four runners in the top-6 and took down four other teams that were ranked in the top-25 at the time, including No. 5 Iowa State and No. 7 Stanford. The Lumberjacks are now tied with North Central (Ill.), a team that dominated the NCAA Division III Men's National Coaches' Poll from 2010 to 2012. Next up would be the all-time best of 27 weeks in a row, established by the NCAA DIII Johns Hopkins women from 2015 to 2017.

The Lumberjack women found themselves in the top-30 for the first time since week six of last season (No. 28). NAU caught some attention at the John McNichols Invitational following their fifth place finish in the team standings behind Arkansas, Stanford, Washington, and Michigan.

Both the men's and women's XC teams will be returning to the course on Oct. 18 for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

FloSports also recently ranked the NAU men at the No. 1 spot and picked the women's team as the No. 21 school in their rankings.
