LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 6) – After an incredibly hard fought game, the Northern Arizona University women's soccer team (2-1-1) recorded their first loss against the University of Southern California (4-0) today, falling 3-0.
The defense played tough, keeping the Trojans back from scoring a goal during the entire first half of the game. NAU is only one of two teams so far to shut out USC in the first half this season. USC was also held to just seven shots-on-goal for the whole game, the second lowest it's had so far.
The offense for the 'Jacks took a total of four shots, one shot-on-goal, and one corner.
Paige Maling,
Madison Montgomery,
Mei-Te Coco and
Rylee Mitchell each took one shot out of the four. Mitchell recorded her first shot-on-goal of the season against USC.
Taryn Benham saved her first shot-on-goal at the 19th
minute of the game, when USC's Natalie Jacobs kicked the ball toward the bottom right of the net. Benham continued to record a total of four saves after facing seven shots-on-goal.
The 'Jacks will be back in action to play at Pacific this Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
