ST. GEORGE, Utah (January 18, 2020) – For the first time in Northern Arizona University swimming history, the 'Jacks completed their first meet against Dixie State University, taking their first win of the new year and scoring 154-99.
"We had high energy today," head coach
Andy Johns said. "It was great to see them compete like this today with the Boise State meet next week and the WAC Championship soon."
In Dixie's new pool, the Lumberjacks won in almost every event against the Trailblazers, just falling short in the 200 breaststroke. The swimmers also accomplished various pool records at HPC.
Senior
Alice Hick, swam in the 1000 freestyle for the first time since 2018, taking first place with a time of 10:45.48.
Iliana Moore also debuted in the 1000 free with a third-place finish (10:52.74).
Both
Astrid Villeda and
Niamh McDonagh swam in events that they hadn't so far this year. McDonagh swam to first in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:08.58. Villeda, who is usually a distance freestyler, took fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:32.83. Making her first debut in a relay,
Brooke Seiber swam in the last leg of the 200 freestyle, along with Abby Nelson,
Clara Foster, and her sister,
Sam Seiber, to finish fifth at 1:44.55
As well as new events, new personal records were broken, like
Clara Foster's previous record in the 50 free (25.91) with a new time of 25.77. Moore went on to have a new season best time in the 400 IM at 4:41.31.
The 'Jacks will be back at home next week for a dual meet against Boise State on both Jan. 24 and 25. Friday, the 24th, the meet will begin at 5 p.m. Senior Day celebrations will be on Sat., the 25th, starting at 10:30 a.m.
