FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (July 22, 2020) – Mikayla Malaspina and
Miranda Myers had one final chance at running at the NCAA Cross Country Championship and they accomplished it during their senior seasons in 2019. Together, they helped lead the Lumberjacks not only to another Big Sky Championship, but a return to the national stage in their final go-around as Lumberjacks.
Northern Arizona women's cross country had not competed as a team at the NCAA Cross Country Championship since 2008, but that all changed last fall as the Lumberjacks reentered the national spotlight. Malaspina and Myers both posted all-conference finishes at the 2019 Big Sky Championship while guiding NAU to its third conference title in the last four years, but the two seniors left a lasting impact in leading the team back to the NCAA meet in Terre Haute, Ind. The 'Jacks placed 14th as a team with the two seniors crossing the finish line first for the Lumberjacks in their last collegiate cross country race.
Malaspina and Myers chat about the 2019 season and their careers as a whole in this week's Lumberjack Flashback, reliving many top moments and individual performances by NAU Athletics over the last decade.
