Men's XC Earns USTFCCCA Scholar Team of the Year; Women Qualify for All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. (January 27, 2022) – On Thursday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country individuals and teams that post both exceptional athletic and academic performances during the season. The Northern Arizona men and women each qualified for team honors, with the NAU men winning the National Scholar Team of the Year title as well.

To be eligible for USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.

The Lumberjack men maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.16 and won the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship team title in November; this is the fourth time in program history that NAU has been named the cross country Men's Scholar Team of the Year, adding to their haul from 2020, 2016 and 2013. 

Meanwhile the women carried a 3.61 GPA and finished 23rd in Tallahassee.
