Lincoln, Neb. (January 28, 2022) - Northern Arizona jumpers senior Jenna Figueroa and sophomore Mitchell Effing, along with women's combined-events sophomore Madeline Wilson competed at Nebraska's Adidas Classic on Friday.
Wilson started off strong in the women's pentathlon, racking up 944 points in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84) after a third place photo finish behind Mathilde Canet (8.82) of Texas State and Kerrigan Myers of Nebraska (8.76).
Clocking out of the high jump at a near personal best of 1.63 meters, Wilson grabbed 771 additional points, placing second in the event to Canet (1.72m), to round up to 1715 points heading into shot put.
With a seventh place (10.07m) shot put performance, Wilson picked up 534 points and prepared for the long jump; Wilson went 5.15 meters to earn 601 points and tally 2850 leading into the final event.
Ending the evening with a total of 3462 points, Wilson ultimately placed fourth in the overall rankings behind Maria Romero of Wichita State (3656), Holly Gerberding of South Dakota (3810) and Canet (3855).
Later, Effing and Figueroa respectively took the runway for men and women's long jump.
Effing finished third with a mark of 7.20m, following Ronnie Briscoe Jr. (7.26m) of Texas State, and Clayton Keys of Nebraska (7.36m), while Figueroa placed 11th (5.29m).
The jumpers will return to the Huskers Devaney Center Indoor Track tomorrow for the men and women's long jump, while Lumberjack teammates compete in New York and Washington.
