ALBUQUERQUE N.M. (February 20, 2022) - The Northern Arizona Men's Tennis team took a 2-5 loss at New Mexico on Sunday, battling some tough matches in both doubles and singles play.
Earning the 'Jacks only doubles win was Alex Groves and Dominik Buzonics on court two, with a 6-4 win while facing the Lobos' Nicolas Prieto and Arda Azkara. Facundo Tumosa and Eban Straker-Meads lost on court one, 4-6, to Alex Maggs and Jan Pucalka. To solidify UNM's first point of the match, Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon fell 3-6 on court three to Rafael Abdulsalam and Georgio Samaha.
Straker-Meads and Ziomber both brought in singles wins for the Lumberjacks, to earn the 'Jacks two points on the match. Straker-Meads played a hard fought match on court two against Abdulsalam, earning himself the 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 victory. Ziomber took the win on court four, facing Maggs and finishing with a 6-4, 6-3 win after a quick match.
Tumosa had a tough first set on court one, ultimately losing the set 1-6, and after a battle in the second set, fell 6-7 to Azkara. Buzonics was matched up with Adam Noroozian on court three, and suffered a 4-6, 3-6 loss. Dani Torres fell to Samaha on court six, 1-6, 3-6. Groves took a tough loss on court five to Pucalka after a first set 7-6 win, a 3-6 loss in the second set and a battle in set three, falling 9-11.
