TEMPE, Ariz. (March 26, 2022) – Northern Arizona Track and Field finished strong on the second day of the ASU Invitational.
The jumpers led off the day with two personal best marks from Sirr Butler (6.49 meters) in the men's long jump and Jack Normand (14.79m) in the men's triple jump; Ian Lipsey (6.71m), Cameron Peters (6.25m), Kenashalee Kerr (5.52m) and Lily Margolis (5.35m) respectively competed in the men's and women's long jump jump, while Butler (14.16m) and Mitchell Effing (15.17m) competed in the men's triple jump.
Continuing the field momentum, Trevor Hook, Clayton Zupke, and Jade Kwinn advanced to Javelin finals to finish with 60.27m, 53.63m, and 40.71m.
Meanwhile, Carly Watts, Kimberly Buchanan, Jake Arnold, and Parker Bays qualified for women's and men's shot put finals, ultimately finishing with 14.93m, 12.10, 17.02m, and 16.65m; Rudy Tapia (15.05m) and Blake Baloun (15.34m) set personal records in the event as well.
The track got off to an electric start, as Trenton Givens (13.96) and Wil Peralta (14.52) set personal best times in the men's 110-meter hurdle finals, while Madeline Wilson (14.36) and Kiana Kai (14.81) competed in the women's 100-meter finals.
In the 100-meter dash, Lipsey set a personal best time of 10.84, sprinting alongside Erick Thompson Jr. (10.88), Zachary Sutton (10.89), Kyle Smith (10.90), Joshua Bennett (11.10), and Matthew Roma (11.51); meanwhile Alyssa Colbert (11.66) and Synfanie Crudder (12.17) competed in the women's 100-meter dash.
Later, George Kusche ran 1:50.29, the fastest men's 800-meter time in the Big Sky and the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA this season, immediately followed by Theo Quax's time of 1:50.46.
Hurdlers Ethan Seppala (56.80) and Zach Schroeder (57.02) also set personal best times on Saturday evening in the men's 400-meter hurdles, alongside Alex Alton (54.92) and Peralta (58.72); Kai (1:10.99) competed for the Lumberjack women in the 400-meter hurdles as well.
The distance squad finished the night with the men's and women's 1500-meter race; Melanie Loff and Meagan Van Pelt showcased exceptional races with personal best times of 4:31.16 and 4:36.30, while Kusche (3:47.91) and Quax (3:48.06) led the remaining NAU men, Caleb Easton (3:49.22), Aiden Barnhill (3:59.47) and Jordan Black (4:08.87).
The Lumberjacks will be back in action April 1-2 for the Stanford Invitational.
