Swimming and Diving Announce 2022-23 Schedule Ahead of 40th Season of Program Competition

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 19, 2022) - NAU Swimming and Diving is heading into its 40th season of competition, beginning with the 27th annual pentathlon this Friday at 2 p.m. MST.

The Lumberjacks are coming off their ninth consecutive Western Athletic Conference Championship under head coach Andy Johns and head diving coach Nikki Kelsey, looking to complete a decade of straight championship seasons this upcoming February.

NAU will compete in the annual Blue vs. Gold meet at the Wall Aquatic Center on Friday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. MST. The 'Jacks will then open up their regular season against Ottawa, Arizona Christian, and Idaho in Flagstaff on Friday Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. MST. It will be the Lumberjacks and Vandals first matchup since the 2022 WAC Championships, where Idaho placed 6th in the conference.

In a weekend trip to New Mexico, NAU will face New Mexico in Albuquerque on Friday Nov. 4, followed by a Saturday, Nov. 5 meet in Las Cruces at New Mexico State. The 'Jacks hosted New Mexico last season in Flagstaff, pulling out the 180-115 win. New Mexico State came to NAU last January, where the meet ended in a 132-132 draw.

The swimmers will head to the A3 Performance Invite for the second consecutive season, hosted by Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction Nov. 16-19. The diving squad will host their first Lumberjack Diving Invite of the season from Nov. 17-19 at the Wall Aquatic Center.

Ahead of the team's winter break, the 'Jacks will head to Las Vegas for the UNLV invitational Dec. 17-19. 2023 competition will come early for NAU as they host Colorado State and North Texas at the Wall Aquatic Center on Friday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. MST. Colorado State placed 5th at the Mountain West Championships, while North Texas finished 4th at the Conference USA Championships.

NAU will take on its first PAC-12 opponents in Tucson for a meet against Arizona and Washington State on Friday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. MST. The Lumberjacks will then head to St. George, Utah for a dual meet at Utah Tech on Jan. 28.

NAU is set to host its second Lumberjack Diving Invite Feb. 3-4 in Flagstaff. The following weekend, the 'Jacks will head to Las Vegas once again for the UNLV First Chance Invite. This invite gave NAU the chance to prepare for WAC championships last season, giving swimmers the opportunity to swim some heats just ahead of the conference meet.

The WAC championships will take place in Pharr, Texas this season from Feb. 22-25, where NAU looks to claim their 10th conference title in 10 years. The NCAA Zone E Diving Championships will be held Mar. 6-8 in Seattle, Washington.
