FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 10, 2023) - The Lumberjacks are heading back on the road for the last double dual meet of the season as they face Arizona and Washington State in Tucson on Friday at 2 p.m. MST.
The Jacks are coming off their last home meet of the season, as they hosted the double dual against Colorado State and North Texas. Haley Mayhew headlined the seniors' success with her win in the 200-yard breaststroke as the only swimmer under two minutes and 20 seconds (2:19.98). She also led the Lumberjacks with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:08.35), followed by freshman Gracie Munk (2:12.76) and junior Delaney Phillips (2:12.89).
The Lumberjacks took the top five spots in the 3-meter dive with freshmen Grace Wesche and Margaret Wesche finishing first and third respectively with scores of 304.15 and 293.80. Junior Maegan Jensen slotted right in between the Wesche twins in second (300.60). Junior Reaney Preston (291.90) and senior Emily Luberto (288.25) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Jensen followed up her second-place finish in the 3-meter with a win in the 1-meter (286.80). NAU had three point-scorers in the 1-meter as well, with freshman Mackenna Stocker claiming second (276.75) and Grace Wesche earning points in this event as well with a fourth-best score of 266.00.
Friday's meet will be the first time NAU and Arizona have faced one another since last season's two-day exhibition meet in January. The Jacks totaled five first place finishes in the meet, highlighted by Casey Craffey's 1000 free victory, coming in at 10:24.23. Haley Mayhew placed first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:22.20, followed by Maddy Rey championing both the 200 free as well as the 400 IM.
Maegan Jensen earned a third place on the 1m boards, scoring 285.68, followed by Victoria Knapp in fourth place with a score of 279.53, both marking NCAA zone qualifying scores. Knapp went on to place second on the 3m boards, followed by Emily Luberto who tacked on another top five score for the Jacks in the 3m event.
The Wildcats are 2-3 through dual meet competition this season, earning victories against GCU and Miami. In Arizona's last dual meet, the team fell to USC 165-128. Maddy Burt earned a first place finish in the 100 fly along with a NCAA B-Cut. Delaney Schnell once again dominated the boards, placing first in both 1m and 3m dives.
Washington State is coming off a highly impressive victory at the 2022 U.S. Open, where the Cougars relay team earned gold in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:25.21. The Cougars have gone 1-2 in dual meet competition, with a 144-104 win coming to WAC opponent Northern Colorado.
