Swimming and Diving Set to Host Colorado State and North Texas for Senior Day

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 4, 2023) - The Lumberjacks are heading back to action this Friday after a quick winter break, as they will celebrate senior day and host Colorado State and North Texas.

Friday's meet will be NAU's last full meet of both swimming and diving for the season. The Jacks will honor seniors Emily Luberto, Brooke Seiber, Illiana Moore, and Haley Mayhew for their careers in blue and gold.

NAU is returning to the pool and the boards after an impressive second place finish at the UNLV invite, where the Jacks finished just behind Pac-12 opponent UCLA.

Freshman Elsa Musselman further proved her ability to keep up with the NCAA's best, as she earned some impressive finishes in the three day invite. The freshman was the lone Jack to finish in the top eight of the 200 IM, placing sixth 2:04.29. Musselman also went on to champion the 100 fly coming in at 54.37.

Junior Maddy Rey saw a successful weekend as well, placing first in the 500 free with a time of 4:51.64. Rey finished the invite in the top three individual scoring athletes, just behind UCLA who held the top two individual scores. Rey contributed 67 points to NAU's final score.

On the boards, Reaney Preston stepped up for NAU. The sophomore diver found victory on the 1-meter boards, finishing first with a score of 283.80. Victoria Knapp had yet another impressive weekend as the sophomore finished first on the 3m and second on the 1m. Knapp scored 304.95 on the 3m, and 283.70 on the 1m.

Colorado State will head into Friday's meet with a 6-0 dual meet record this season, bringing in victories against Colorado School of Mines, New Mexico State, Denver, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Air Force. The Rams are currently on a win streak of 20 dual meets, dating back to 2021.

CSU's Lexi Trietly earned Mountain West freshman of the week along with swimmer of the week the last time out for the Rams. Lucy Matheson was also honored as swimmer of the week, sharing the honors with teammate Trietly. Matheson championed all three individual events she competed in. Trietly won both the 50 free and 100 free, adding to her streak of nine consecutive victories in the 100 free, with zero losses in the event in her collegiate career.

North Texas is sitting with a 3-1 dual meet record as they head into their first competition since Nov. 19. The Mean Green have earned wins against New Mexico, UIW, and Little Rock.

North Texas last competed at the Phill Hansel Invite, hosted by Houston, where the team placed fifth overall. Shaena McCloud notched a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 fly as her most successful swims of the weekend. Brigid Krbec finished sixth on the 1-meter boards with a personal best score of 263.15. Krbec went on to finish eighth on the 3-meter boards, and closed out the meet with another personal best on the platform dives.

Friday's meet will begin at 3 p.m. MST, and is open to the public for free. To stay up to date with NAU Swimming and Diving, follow the Jacks on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
