FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 17, 2023) –Elise Stearns and
Nico Young have been named Big Sky Cross Country Athletes of the Week following impressive performances at the Nuttycombe Invitational this past week.
Stearns earned her second Women's Athlete of the Week honor this season, previously garnering the honor on Sept. 26 following her win at the Virginia Invitational. She finished fourth in the women's championship 6K at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Her time of 19:54.6 was nearly three seconds better than her previous years' time on the course and put her among the top runners in the nation.
Young was named Men's Athlete of the Week following a strong season-opening performance in the men's championship 8K at the Nuttycombe Invitational. He finished second for the second consecutive year, running a time of 23:26.1.
This marks the third time this season that a pair of Lumberjacks has swept the Big Sky Weekly Awards.
Drew Bosley and
Ruby Smee earned the honors on Sept. 5, while Bosley and Stearns took the awards on Sept. 26.
