FARMINGTON, Utah (Oct. 26, 2023) – Following a record performance at The Clash of Boulder Creek, Northern Arizona University golfer
Lizzie Neale has been named Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week as announced this afternoon by the league office.
It is the second golfer of the week nod of her young career.
Neale placed tied for third at the tournament with a career low of 209 (-7) which ranks second all-time in NAU history. The sophomore opened the tournament with a 74 (+2) in the first round but bounced back with a 67 (-5) in the second. The total is the lowest of her career and ties a program record, as she is just the fourth golfer in Northern Arizona history to record a round that low.
In round three, she recorded the first eagle of her career and finished with a 68 (-4). Over three rounds, she earned nine birdies.
Her performance helped the Lumberjacks secure a third-place finish at the tournament, which NAU hosted. Northern Arizona recorded a program record low of 275 (-13) for a single round in round two and then tied the record once again in the third round. The Lumberjacks' final total of 852 (-13) strokes set a program record for 54 holes.
Neale's performance was the first top-five finish of her career and she now has 16 career rounds at par or better, six this season, and five rounds in the 60's.
The Nelson, New Zealand, native currently has a scoring average of 72.3 this season and 73.5 through 30 rounds during her time as a Lumberjack.
The Clash at Boulder Creek concluded the 2023 Fall season for NAU. The Lumberjacks return to action with the Mountain Classic Match Play on Feb. 12-14 in Palm Desert, Calif.
