FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (December 6, 2023) – NAU Swimming and Diving added six newcomers who have signed their National Letters of Intent to join the program in the fall of 2024.
Catalina Devia, Katarina Klatt, Kaci Kelaher, Lily Powell, Teddy Sabev and Isahbel Krasht will look to continue the program's dominance in the WAC Conference.
"We are really excited about this group of student-athletes that are beginning to shape our Class of 2024," head coach Andy Johns said. "All of them are great students and athletically come in with times and scores that can contribute to point totals at the conference championships. These six signees from Texas, Arizona and Nevada represent a great start to bringing in the next group of swimmers and divers to continue our tradition of excellence in and out of the pool."
Catalina Devia is joining NAU Swimming and Diving from San Antonio, Texas, where she finished her diving career at Sonia Sotomayor High School. Before completing her final two years at Sotomayor, Devia broke the Harlan High School 1 and 3-meter diving records with scores of 455 and 432, respectively. During the 2022-23 academic year, Devia was named Athlete of the Year for the diving program in her junior year.
Katarina Klatt will come to Flagstaff from Carson City, Nevada, where she lettered four consecutive years at Carson High School. There, she holds the Carson program record in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 100 back. Klatt was a Nevada state champion in the 100 fly. In addition, Klatt was named Academic All-State for her excellence both in the pool and the classroom.
Kaci Kelaher is one of two Arizonans in the 2024 class. Coming from University High School in Tucson, Arizona, Kelaher was the 2022 AIA D1 Swimmer of the Year and was in the top five in the 100 freestyle in 2022 and 2023. In the 200 freestyle last season, Kelaher's times were good for the top eight.
The second of three Texans who will be a part of the program next season is Lily Powell, who comes to Flagstaff from Frisco, Texas, where she competed at Reedy High School and lettered for four years in swimming and two in cross country. Powell has been on the All-District, All-Region, and All-State First Teams in each of her first three swimming seasons at Reedy.
From Peoria, Arizona, Teddy Sabev started for four years at Horizon High School under head coach Sam Kramer, where she contributed to a second-place team finish in the state of Arizona the last two seasons. Sabev was second in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 backstroke. Sabev most recently broke her school's 400 freestyle relay record and achieved an All-American consideration in the process.
Another Frisco, Texas native who is joining the Lumberjacks from Reedy High School is Isahbel Krasht, who owns the Reedy record in the 100 butterfly and 200 medley relay. At the 5A Texas State UIL Swimming Championships, Krasht had a third-place time in the 200-medley relay and was named to the All-State Team during the 2022-23 season.
"Our graduating seniors will go down as one of the most decorated classes in the history of our program, so replacing them is a big task," Johns said.
