NAU Picked as Unanimous Big Sky Outdoor Favorites

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 20, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams were picked as unanimous Big Sky favorites for the outdoor season according to the 2022-23 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Coaches Poll.

Both the men's and women's teams have won at the past two Big Sky Outdoor Championships. They also swept the cross country and indoor championships earlier this year. The last time NAU achieved a full-program sweep was the 2021-22 season.

Last season the Lumberjacks sent a record 33 athletes to the NCAA West Regionals. Five athletes punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Abdihamid Nur earned a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter after running a time of 28:14.51, earning first-team All-American honors. Nico Young picked up a bronze medal of his own in the 5,000-meter after running a time of 13:28.62 to become a first-team All-American.

Also earning All-American status was David Dunlap who finished 15th in the 200-meter to earn second-team honors. Jessa Hanson was also named a second-team All-American after placing 11th in the women's 10K with a time of 33:55.74. George Kusche finished 11th in the 1,500-meter with a time of 3:47.20, earning a spot on the All-American second-team.

Both Young and Dunlap return this season for NAU.

The Lumberjacks will continue their outdoor season as they head to the University of Arizona this weekend to compete in the Willie Williams Classic. Stay up to date with NAU Cross Country and Track & Field by following us on Twitter and Instagram.
