Lumberjacks Take Down Eastern Washington, 7-0

CHENEY, Wash. (March 31, 2023) - NAU Men's Tennis earns its second Big Sky Conference victory of the season Friday afternoon with a 7-0 win at Eastern Washington.

Extending the Lumberjacks win streak to six matches, NAU picked up two doubles victories to secure the first point of the day. Maikel De Boes and Facundo Tumosa were able to find the edge in the tiebreak, earning a 7-6 (8-6) win at the No. 1. Piotr Galus and Alex Groves added their eleventh doubles victory as a pairing, knocking down the Eagle with a 6-2 match.

The Jacks shifted the singles  lineup with De Boes out of singles play, Galus picked up his ninth victory at the No. 2 as the Jacks swept the Eagles with a perfect match through singles play. Galus' victory came to EWU's Tyler Dalos who was shut down in a 6-1, 6-2 match, marking his ninth loss of the season, his first coming at the No. 2 position.

Maciej Ziomber stepped in at the No. 6 spot, claiming a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win to EWU's Bruno Ortega. With today's victory, Ziomber moves to 8-1 this season with the Junior's only loss coming to No. 66 Gonzaga. Groves took on Caden Kammerer at the No. 4, earning a 6-2, 7-5 victory to improve his overall singles record to 9-2, marking his second victory of the season at the No. 4.

Buzonics and Tumosa went to three sets at the No. 3 and No.1, respectively. After a tough 1-6 match in the second set, Tumosa flipped the narrative and picked up a solid 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 match to the Eagles' Steven Paz. Buzonics kicked off his match at the No. 3 with a slow start, falling 4-6 before cleaning up with a 6-2, 6-0 second and third set to earn the win.
